📐 Image Resizer — Free, In-Browser, No Upload
Instantly resize PNG, JPG, WEBP, and GIF images to any pixel dimension — completely free, with no file uploads and no account required. Everything runs locally in your browser, so your images never leave your device. Looking for a free Canva alternative? Toolio’s version is completely free and needs no sign-up.
Resizing an image changes its dimensions in pixels — to meet an upload limit, fit a layout, or make a photo smaller or larger.
Private by design. This tool runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded or stored, and it works offline.
About
This tool uses the browser's built-in Canvas API to scale your image client-side, with no server involvement at any step. You can lock the aspect ratio to avoid distortion, choose from common width presets (256 px to 1920 px), or enter an exact pixel size. Because processing is entirely offline, the tool works without an internet connection and your images remain private — they are never transmitted anywhere.
How to use
- Drop your image onto the page or click the drop zone to select a PNG, JPG, WEBP, or GIF file.
- Enter the target width or height in pixels, or click a quick preset button (256 px, 500 px, 720 px, 1080 px, 1280 px, 1920 px).
- Toggle the lock icon to keep or break the aspect ratio — locked means changing one dimension auto-adjusts the other.
- Click Resize to apply — a live preview appears with the exact pixel dimensions and file size.
- Click Download to save the resized image to your device in the original file format.
- Pick a mode: 'Resize (scale)' changes the image's pixel dimensions, while 'Expand canvas' keeps the image at its original size and enlarges the background around it — great for adding padding, a border, or a square background.
- In Expand-canvas mode, choose the background fill and where the image sits. The color is auto-detected from your image (or keep it Transparent for PNGs), and a 3×3 grid places the image anywhere in the enlarged frame.
FAQ
- Is this image resizer free to use?
- Yes, completely free with no limits. There is no account, subscription, or hidden cost — just open the page and start resizing.
- Do my images get uploaded to a server?
- No. All resizing happens inside your browser using the Canvas API. Your image is never sent to any server, and no data leaves your device.
- Does the tool work offline or without an internet connection?
- Yes. Once the page has loaded, the resizer works entirely offline. There are no external API calls or CDN dependencies.
- Which image formats are supported?
- You can load PNG, JPG, WEBP, GIF, and any other format your browser supports as an image. PNG, JPG, WEBP and GIF keep their original format, and animated GIFs stay animated. Less common formats such as BMP or AVIF are saved as PNG.
- Can I resize an image to exact pixel dimensions without distortion?
- Yes. Enable the aspect ratio lock (the padlock icon) and entering one dimension auto-calculates the other to prevent stretching. You can also unlock and enter any width and height independently.
- How do I make an image bigger without stretching it?
- Switch to 'Expand canvas' mode. It keeps your image at its original pixel size and grows the background around it instead of scaling the image, so nothing gets stretched or blurred. Set the new canvas width and height, then choose where the image sits.
- How do I add a background or border to an image?
- Use 'Expand canvas' mode with a canvas larger than the image. For photos and JPGs the background color is auto-detected from the image edges, and for transparent PNGs the added area stays transparent. You can also pick any color or toggle Transparent manually.
- Can I resize an animated GIF without losing the animation?
- Yes. When you load an animated GIF, every frame is resized and re-encoded into a new animated GIF, so the movement is preserved. You can make it smaller or larger and set an exact pixel size. There is no frame limit — longer GIFs show a progress bar and can be cancelled at any time.
