About
Toolio's Typing Speed Test runs entirely in your browser using pure HTML and JavaScript — no server calls, no cookies, no tracking. WPM is calculated as correctly typed characters divided by 5, divided by elapsed minutes; accuracy tracks every keystroke cumulatively so backspace-and-retype errors are never forgiven. Five passages cover classic quotes, science, programming wisdom, and Korean-language texts, letting you benchmark both languages side by side.
How to use
- Select a passage from the chips at the top (Classic Quote, Science, Programming, Korean Classic, or Korean Science).
- Click the text input area and start typing — the timer begins automatically on your first keystroke.
- Watch live stats — WPM, accuracy, elapsed time, and correct character count update in real time as you type.
- Correctly typed characters turn green; mismatches turn red and underlined. The cursor marks your current position.
- Finish the passage exactly to see your final WPM and accuracy banner. Press Restart (or Ctrl+Enter) to try again.
FAQ
- Is this typing speed test free?
- Yes, completely free. No sign-up, no subscription, no hidden fees — just open the page and start typing.
- Does it work offline or without an internet connection?
- Yes. The tool runs entirely client-side with no network requests. Once the page loads, it works fully offline — ideal for planes, restricted networks, or privacy-sensitive environments.
- Is my typing data private? Does anything get sent to a server?
- Nothing is sent anywhere. All processing happens in your browser — no keystrokes, scores, or results are transmitted to any server. Your data stays on your device.
- How is WPM calculated here?
- WPM = (number of correctly typed characters ÷ 5) ÷ elapsed minutes. Dividing by 5 converts characters to standard 'words'. Only a continuous correct prefix counts — a wrong character stops the tally until corrected.
- How is accuracy tracked — does fixing a mistake help my score?
- Accuracy is cumulative: every keystroke is counted, and wrong keystrokes are never erased even if you backspace and retype correctly. This gives a realistic measure of true typing accuracy rather than a corrected final score.
