About
This tool enlarges video on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, so there is no queue, no file-size cap imposed by a server, and no watermark on the way out. Each frame is resampled on your GPU with a bicubic filter and then run through an unsharp mask, which recovers the crispness that any enlargement softens. You control the sharpening strength, the output size, and the quality/file-size trade-off. Where your browser supports WebCodecs — Chrome, Edge, Safari 16.4+, and Firefox 130+ — the tool encodes using your device's dedicated video hardware, the same silicon a phone uses to record 4K, so a clip finishes in seconds rather than minutes. Files that hardware path cannot read (WebM, unusual codecs) fall back automatically to a software engine that runs entirely in the page. The original audio track is copied across untouched, so it is never re-compressed. One honest limit: this is high-quality resampling, not AI super-resolution. It makes a video larger and sharper, but it cannot invent detail that the camera never recorded — heavily compressed or badly out-of-focus footage will still look soft at 4K.
That limit decides when upscaling is worth doing. It pays off when a video is small but clean: an old 480p or 720p clip shot on a decent camera, a screen recording captured at a low window size, or footage you need to drop into a 1080p or 4K editing timeline without it looking like a postage stamp surrounded by black bars. Editors and TVs will scale a small clip up anyway, and they usually do it with a cheap, blurry filter — doing the enlargement here first, with a proper bicubic pass and controlled sharpening, gives a visibly better result than letting the player guess. It pays off far less on a video that is already sharp at its native size, where you gain nothing but file size, and on a source that is blurry or full of compression blocks, where the sharpening will simply make the blocks more obvious.
Expect the file to grow. Doubling the width and height quadruples the pixel count, and a video codec needs a bigger bitrate to carry those extra pixels at the same visual quality, so a 4x upscale of a 30 MB clip can easily land in the hundreds of megabytes. The Quality control is where you steer that: High spends more bits and preserves fine texture, Smaller file spends fewer and gives some of it back. If the result looks soft everywhere, raise the quality before you raise the sharpening — a low bitrate blurs detail in a way that no amount of sharpening can undo.
How to use

- Choose the output size — 1x to keep the original resolution, 2x or 4x the original, or a fixed target of 720p, 1080p, 1440p, or 4K. The exact output resolution is shown before you start.
- Set the sharpening strength. Around 35% suits most footage; push it higher for soft or old video, and lower it if you see halos around edges.
- Leave Noise reduction off unless the footage is visibly grainy. It is an edge-preserving filter, so it flattens sensor noise and film grain while keeping edges — but it also takes some real detail with it, and on clean footage that is a loss, not a gain.
- Pick a quality level. Higher quality means a larger file at the same resolution; Smaller file trades some detail for size.

- Is my video uploaded to a server?
- No. The entire process runs inside your browser using your device's own video hardware. Your file never leaves your computer or phone, which is why there is no queue, no size limit set by us, and no watermark.
- Is this an AI video upscaler?
- No, and we would rather say so plainly. It uses high-quality bicubic resampling plus an unsharp mask, which enlarges and re-sharpens the detail that is already in each frame. It does not hallucinate new detail the way an AI super-resolution model does, so a badly blurred or heavily compressed source will still look soft after upscaling.
- How long does upscaling take?
- On the hardware path — MP4 or MOV in a recent Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox — a short clip typically finishes in seconds, because your device encodes with the same dedicated chip it uses to record video. The software fallback, used for WebM and unusual codecs, is far slower and can take several minutes for the same clip.
- Does the sound survive?
- Yes. The audio track is copied into the new file without being decoded or re-compressed, so it comes out identical to the source. There is one exception: a format that MP4 cannot carry as-is, such as Vorbis, has to be converted to AAC — and when that happens the tool says so on the result. A video with no audio simply stays silent.
- Why is 4K greyed out for my video?
- The output is capped at 3840 pixels on the longest side. A 4x enlargement of an already-large video can exceed that, and encoding beyond it risks exhausting your browser tab's memory. Choose a smaller multiplier or a fixed target such as 1080p.
- Which formats can I upload?
- MP4 and MOV are the best choice — they take the fast hardware path. WebM and other formats the hardware path cannot read still work, but they fall back to the software engine, which downloads a one-time 30 MB component and runs more slowly. The output is always MP4.
- Should I turn on noise reduction?
- Usually not, which is why it ships off. We measured it: on a clean source, denoising slightly lowers fidelity against the original because it removes real detail along with the noise. It earns its place only on footage that is visibly grainy — low-light phone video, old camcorder tape, heavily compressed clips — where the noise it removes is worth more than the detail it costs. Start at zero, raise it only if you can see grain.
