It works offline once the page has loaded, so you can use it anywhere.
How to use
- Type or paste your text into the input area.
- Or open a document instead: click "Open file", or drag the file onto the input box. Toolio reads the text out of TXT, MD, CSV, DOCX, PDF, PPTX and ODT files and drops it straight into the counter.
- View real-time stats — characters (with and without spaces), words, sentences, paragraphs, lines, and reading time — displayed as cards below the input.
- Edit your text at any time; all counts update automatically with every keystroke.

- Can I count the words in a Word or PDF file?
- Yes. Click "Open file" or drag the document onto the input box, and the text inside it is read into the counter — TXT, MD, CSV, DOCX, PDF, PPTX and ODT are supported. Your browser opens the file itself, so nothing is uploaded and the file never leaves your device. One limit worth knowing: a scanned PDF stores its pages as images with no text layer, so there is nothing to count — use the OCR tool for those.

- Yes. Once the page has loaded, the word counter works fully offline — no internet connection needed to count words or characters.
- How is reading time calculated?
- Reading time is estimated at 200 words per minute, which reflects an average adult reading speed. Results under a minute are shown in seconds, and results of a minute or more are rounded up to the nearest minute.
- What counts as a sentence or paragraph?
- Sentences are counted by punctuation terminators: period, exclamation mark, and question mark (including their full-width equivalents . ! ? 。！？). Paragraphs are counted as non-empty blocks separated by one or more blank lines.
